‘The Laramie Project’ is the latest production from local theatre company, The Ashton Hayes Theatre Club.
You know that feeling you get when you’ve just binge watched a really good Netflix documentary? One that makes you angry, but also makes you cry. One that opens your eyes, and has you sitting on the edge of your seat, getting a bit shouty. ‘The Laramie Project’ had me doing all of those things, and more. Except the shouty bit of course, it seemed rather inappropriate to do that whilst sat in the audience, so I just did the very British thing of seething quietly in my seat instead.
Written in 2000, by Moises Kaufman with members of the Techtonic Theatre Company, and directed and produced for the Ashton Hayes Theatre Club, by Yvette Owen. The play focuses on what was the aftermath, of Mathew Shepard’s brutal murder, in America, 1998.
